We were approached by renowned sculptor Ron Mueck to manufacture this large Skull in cast iron from a fibreglass pattern.
The sculpture was cast as one whole piece, which made it a highly skilled and arduous task to mould. The moulding process actually took several months to complete to the necessary standard.
Once cast, breaking out the piece was a nervy process. A few times throughout it looked like the metal may have sunk, only for it to end up being a gum groove or eye socket being revealed.
The final sculpture, now named “Dead Weight” measured over 1.5 meters tall and weighed in at just under 2 tonnes.
